Slurry Pumps and Valves

Foam Pump

A foam pump sits downstream of flotation cells, collecting the froth product before it enters thickeners or further dewatering. It handles air-laden slurry that conventional centrifugal pumps cannot manage without losing prime or cavitating.

Technical parameters

The pump uses a specially designed impeller and a large suction inlet to move low-density, high-viscosity froth with minimal air breakout. This keeps the bubble structure intact, preventing spills and maintaining steady flow.

Five models cover a spread of flow and head requirements. The table lists maximum allowable power, clear water performance, and impeller diameter. The QV-AF and RV-AF codes indicate different hydraulic designs suited to varying froth volumes and discharge pressures.

Standard-model catalogue figures. Actual capacity, power draw and wear life shift with ore properties, feed gradation and circuit conditions. Use them to shortlist, then confirm the duty by testwork, flowsheet calculation and a written confirmation from the manufacturer.

What decides the selection

Before selecting a foam pump, define the volumetric flow rate of the froth product, the static head, and the pipe friction losses. Characterise the froth density and the anticipated air fraction. Material choice for impeller and casing depends on the abrasiveness and pH of the slurry.

  • Design flow and head
  • Slurry density and particle size
  • Abrasiveness and corrosiveness
  • Net positive suction head
  • Pipeline resistance
  • Sealing arrangement
  • Wetted part material
  • Speed control method
